Freshwater pearl mussels have benn reared for 20 years in Saxony and have been released into the wild since 2006. In May 2022, glochidia from this breed were found on the gills of local brown trout for the first time. This encourages the project team to further enhance the habitat of the mussel so that it can live and reproduce there without human help in the future.
